Wardha, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Washim also to witness severe heatwave today
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘Red Alert’ warning of heatwave for Nagpur city on May 28 as severe heat continues to batter the region for the last one week.
According to the Weather Department, “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to occur at many places of Nagpur, Wardha, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Washim on Thursday. These districts also will witness thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at one or
two places.”
The Department also issued ‘Orange Alert’ for Bhandara, Amravati, Akola, and Yavatmal
for Thursday.
The Weather Department also predicted that the wind pattern may change in Vidarbha from May 29 onwards, which will reduce the maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
Despite change in wind pattern, the maximum temperature will remain above 40 degrees Celsius in the region, but the pre-monsoon activities are likely to increase, which will provide relief to people during evening hours.
On Wednesday, Brahmapuri once again recorded the highest maximum temperature with 46.6 degrees Celsius followed by Nagpur (45.7 degrees Celsius), Gondia (45.2 degrees Celsius), Wardha (45.0 degrees Celsius), Amravati (45.0 degrees Celsius), Bhandara (44.8 degrees Celsius),
Chandrapur (44.8 degrees Celsius), Gadchiroli (44.6 degrees Celsius), Akola (44.3 degrees Celsius), Yavatmal (44.0 degrees Celsius), Washim (43.2 degrees Celsius), and Buldhana (41.3 degrees Celsius).
Akola, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Wardha recorded the minimum temperature above 30.0 degrees Celsius mark on Wednesday. Despite heatwave in Vidarbha, many districts have started witnessing pre-monsoon activities during evening hours, but it failed to dominate the day temperature.
