Issues affecting residents ignored

Leader of Opposition in the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), Akash Tiwari, on criticised the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting, alleging that key civic issues affecting residents were ignored during discussions. Speaking after the MiC meeting, Akash Tiwari said it was unfortunate that no concrete proposals were brought forward regarding basic public amenities such as drinking water supply, sanitation and waterlogging prevention. He stated that Raipur has been facing a serious drinking water crisis for the past several months and alleged that the city continues to struggle with poor sanitation and garbage accumulation. According to him, despite the approaching monsoon season, no effective plan was discussed to tackle the issue of urban flooding and waterlogging. The Opposition leader claimed that the actual ground situation in the capital was alarming and accused officials of misleading the public through meetings and announcements without implementing practical solutions. Akash Tiwari alleged that unless concrete measures are taken, Raipur would once again face severe flooding during the rainy season.

He said that merely conducting meetings without effective execution would not solve the city’s problems. He also raised concerns over the issue of missing trees in the city. According to him, members of the Mayor-in-Council themselves had repeatedly acknowledged that tree counting had been conducted, yet no action had been taken against officials allegedly responsible for the disappearance of trees. He said the absence of serious discussion on the matter reflected a gap between promises and action. At the same time, Akash Tiwari welcomed the approval of the proposal to install a statue of martyr Akash Rao Girpunje at Lakh Nagar Chowk. He said the Opposition had earlier demanded installation of the statue at the same location where a peacock-shaped structure currently exists. According to him, approval of the proposal at that location was a true tribute to the martyr, adding that only one statue of Akash Rao Girpunje would be installed in the entire country.
