SHACHI Vaidya, a 100 per cent visually-impaired student, has secured 89.5 per cent in
Class 12 state board examinations in
the commerce stream, without the
use of a writer. She completed her
exams using Non Visual Desktop
Access (NVDA), a screen-reading software that enabled her to read, write,
and navigate the paper. Shachi,
presently a student of MKH Sancheti
Public School and Junior College, was first introduced
to the software when she was in the Class 9.
Living with her parents, her mother a homemaker and
her father a software engineer, Suchi maintained a consistent study routine throughout the academic year.
Alongside her schoolwork, she dedicated three hours to
self-study, and more on weekends.
Now, she plans to pursue her B.Com, and eventually
shift to law or Company Secretary (CS). She said that
once a person begins to believe they are limited by their
condition, it becomes difficult to move forward.
