Air traffic was severely impacted in Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur, late Friday night due to a sudden deterioration of weather conditions and adverse wind patterns. Landing at the Jaipur airport became temporarily impossible owing to a severe dust storm, strong gusts, and extremely low visibility.
Amid these emergency circumstances, two commercial flights of IndiGo Airlines hovering in the airspace had to be diverted to Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport, where the Air Traffic Control acted promptly to grant immediate and safe landing permissions.
The sudden shift in weather patterns put two IndiGo flights, flight number IGO641M flying from Bengaluru to Jaipur, and flight number 6E394 from Kolkata to Jaipur, into a precarious situation. After failing to receive a green signal from Jaipur air traffic handlers, both pilots established contact with Bhopal.
Recognising the gravity of the emergency, the management and operators at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport lost no time in authorising both aircraft to utilise their runway.
Safe departure after weather normalises: Once the meteorological conditions in Jaipur stabilised and runway visibility improved, both aircraft were prepared for their onward journeys. Following necessary technical inspections and securing the required administrative clearances, the two flights took off safely from Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal to successfully reach their destination, Jaipur.
