The mismanagement and poor service in Pune-Ajni AC Superfast Express (22123) caused great inconvenience to passengers who resorted to agitation. The superfast train running between Pune to Ajni, reached Ajni at around 10.30 am, about five hours behind its scheduled arrival time, on Saturday. To add to the sufferings of the passengers, train attendants were no where to be seen in some of the coaches. The poor management by catering service inside the train also caused discomfort to the passengers during the journey.

According to the information, the train attendant in Coach No B3 was not present while passengers faced discomfort throughout the journey. Another major inconvenience for the passengers was — toilets ran out of water while the train was running late several hours behind its schedule time. Some passengers were pained by shortage of drinking water and food as the catering service was negligible. Even the pantry service in the train was very slow and of poor quality. As the train was stopping at every station, the aggrieved passengers raised the demand the train be stripped of its superfast tag. When Nitin Solanke, Member, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), Central Railway came to know the mismanagement and lack of basic service in the superfast train, he demanded immediate intervention by DRM, Central Railway to avoid such incident in future.

Solanke said that on one hand the Government is talking about the modernisation of Indian Railways, on the other, passengers are struggling for basic amenities. Taking note of the serious issue, Solanke urged the administration to conduct a high-level inquiry into nonavailability of attendant in Coach B3, the negligence of the pantry car, and shortage of water in toilets and take strict action against those responsible for the inconvenience to the passengers.
