Municipal Commissioner Ramprakash Ahirwar rolled up his sleeves and joined senior officials in a special cleanliness drive at Gopalbagh pond on Sunday. He picked up a spade and basket to clean the historic water body himself.
The Municipal Commissioner had arrived at the pond for a routine inspection of the cleanliness arrangements. On seeing the condition of the site, he stepped in personally and started clearing waste. His gesture inspired other senior officials and workers, who also joined him immediately with doubled enthusiasm.
The drive lasted nearly two hours. Officers and employees from the health department, engineering wing and other departments worked shoulder to shoulder with sanitation workers. Large quantities of plastic, dry waste and aquatic weeds were cleared from the pond's ghats and surrounding area.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahirwar said that water bodies are the lifeline of the city. He said their protection and cleanliness
is not just the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation but a shared duty of every citizen. He added that the energy shown by the employees during the drive reflects the Municipal Corporation's commitment to keeping the city clean.
The initiative is carried out under the JMC's ongoing efforts to preserve the city's historic water sources. At the end of the drive, the Municipal Commissioner made an appeal to residents.
He urged them not to throw garbage, plastic or puja
material into the pond. He said the Municipal Corporation is working continuously to keep the pond clean and beautiful, but citizens' cooperation is essential.
