A thief, who thought he had found the perfect target in the form of a locked house, was instead trapped by the sharp eyes of two vigilant beat marshals of Wathoda Police Station. Acting on suspicious movement inside a seemingly deserted home, the police caught a notorious burglar red-handed and recovered stolen gold ornaments before he could escape.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sushant Ashok Thul (30), a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Ralegaon, Yavatmal district. Police records show that he is a habitual offender and has been involved in several burglary cases in Nagpur city.
The incident came to light when beat marshals Sanju Thakre and Shashikant Patole were patrolling the Maa Chandika Nagar area near Anand Sagar Lawn. During the patrol, they noticed suspicious movement inside a house that appeared locked from the outside, with the compound gate secured.
Sensing something unusual, they immediately alerted night-duty officer PSI Pawar, who arrived at the spot along with other police personnel. On inspection, the police found that the lock on the main entrance had been broken, while the door was bolted from inside.
A two-wheeler parked in the courtyard raised further suspicion. Using a police application, officers traced the vehicle owner and contacted the homeowner, who confirmed that the family was out of town.
The police then surrounded the house. After some effort, Thul emerged and was detained. During the search, officers recovered stolen gold ornaments, including a necklace, anklets and a bracelet.
Further verification revealed that Thul has nine cases registered against him - two each at Jaripatka and Sitabuldi police stations, four at Pachpaoli and one at Ajni police station.
Police said the timely vigilance of the beat marshals prevented the burglary and led to the arrest of a seasoned criminal. Further investigation is underway.
