The Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CGSCPCR) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged abduction and rape of a 13-year-old girl in Siliyari under Dharsiwa police station limits of Raipur district and has sought a detailed report into the matter.
According to information released by the Commission, the case came to its notice through reports published on social media and news portals on June 4, following which proceedings were initiated.
The Commission noted that available information indicated the case was initially heading towards closure after the minor reportedly denied the offence during preliminary inquiry. However, subsequent developments, including viral audio and video clips and findings emerging during further investigation, reportedly led to the arrest of two accused persons.
The then in-charge of the concerned police outpost was also suspended following allegations of lapses in investigation. Describing the matter as highly sensitive from the perspective of child safety, quality of police investigation and protection of child rights, the Commission observed that a comprehensive review was necessary. Invoking powers under Sections 13(1)(j) and 14 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the panel has directed the District Child Protection Officer, Raipur, to record the statement of the victim and submit a detailed report before the Commission. The Commission has further instructed that the minor girl, accompanied by her parents or guardians, be produced before it on June 15, 2026, when the matter will be taken up for hearing. Officials said the Commission will also examine compliance with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice Act and other applicable legal safeguards during the proceedings.
