The brave son of Vindhya, Sanjay Tiwari has brought laurels to the region by receiving prestigious military honour ‘Shaurya Chakra’.
Sanjay Tiwari (38), a CRPF constable hailing from Dalhi village in Sirmour tehsil of Rewa district, was awarded the prestigious military honour ‘Shaurya Chakra’.
President of India Draupadi Murmu decorated Sanjay Tiwari with this prestigious military honour in Delhi on Monday. He received this honour for his indomitable valour, extraordinary courage, and supreme devotion to duty displayed during a highly complex and perilous counter-terrorism operation.
It was November 2, 2024. Acting on intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in a neighbourhood within the jurisdiction of the Khanyar police station in Jammu & Kashmir, Constable Sanjay and his team established a cordon as per their plan.
When the security forces began surrounding the target house, the terrorists started indiscriminate gunfire and grenade attacks. Amidst the darkness and thick black smoke, Sanjay - part of the lead assault team - advanced by crawling, employing 'fire and
move' tactics. During this advance, he sustained severe gunshot wounds to his left knee, the right side of his neck, and his lower abdomen due to heavy fire from the terrorists.
Despite bleeding profusely and being critically injured, he refused to leave his position. Displaying indomitable courage, he took cover behind a ballistic shield and, utilising close-quarter battle techniques, neutralised the terrorist in less than a minute. His precise firing turned the tide of the entire operation and averted a major threat.
