What was meant to be a brief tea break turned into a costly mistake for two company employees when thieves allegedly stole Rs 5 lakh cash from their parked car in the Pipla Dak Bungalow area of Khaparkheda. The incident took place on Tuesday evening.
According to police, Sampat Shahu, an employee of a Pepsi company in Saoner, was travelling with his colleague Anil Kale in a car carrying with Rs 5 lakh belonging to the company. While passing through the Pipla Dak Bungalow area, the duo stopped at a tea stall for refreshments.
The employees reportedly left the cash bag inside the vehicle and walked away to have tea.
During this time, two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle. One of them allegedly opened the vehicle, took the bag containing the cash and fled with his accomplice.
The theft came to light when Sampat and Anil returned to the car and discovered that the cash bag was missing. They immediately informed Khaparkheda Police.
Police officers rushed to the spot and registered a case of theft. CCTV footage from nearby shops and establishments is being examined to identify the accused.
A police official said, “The suspects appear to have been monitoring the vehicle and acted when they found an opportunity. We are scanning CCTV footage and gathering technical evidence to trace them.”
