Durg police have busted a gang of five persons who used to sell fake gold biscuits to people claiming them to be genuine. Metal biscuits weighing around 1.242 kilogram resembling the yellow metal and fake coin have also been seized from the possession of the accused. The gang also lured people by convincing them that they will help them find treasure buried inside earth. The accused included Dinesh Kumar Tandon (50), a resident of village Gadadih, Utai; Pannalal Kurre (42), Korba; Ganeshram Gandharva (56), Kabeerdham; Ramswaroop Rautel (30), Dindori, Madhya Pradesh and Bhanupratap Dahariya (40), a
resident of Tara Bhatapara, Patan. Police informed that the victim Jitendra Sahu (38) resides in Borsi Basti at Durg. On June 2 last week, the accused met the victim near a hotel at village Gadadih and all of them were present inside a vehicle.
They convinced the victim that they were in possession of large quantity of gold and want to sell the same at cheaper rates. They then handed over a yellow metal resembling gold to the victim and took Rs 10,000 from him assuring that they will provide more such gold on cheaper rates. The accused had also shown papers and reports to prove authenticity of the fake gold before the victim. Utai police had registered a cheating case in this regard under section 318 (4), 3 (5) of the Bharatyiya Nyay Sanhita. Spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police Manishankar Chandra and other police officers were present during a press conference held in this regard on Wednesday.
