Former Bharatiya Janata Party Minister and ex-MLA from Jabalpur West Assembly, Harendrajeet Singh Babbu has alleged that he has been receiving repeated death threats and police have failed to take effective action despite complaints. He has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav in the matter.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Babbu said he had received death threats for the second time in last two months. He said complaints had earlier been submitted to senior police officials, including the IG and DIG, but no concrete action was taken. Babbu said, two days ago he was travelling alone through the Gorakhpur area at night when he received a phone call from an unidentified person threatening to kill him.
He then went directly to Gorakhpur police station and informed the SHO about the incident. Babbu said the station in-charge called the number from which the threat was allegedly made. During the conversation, the caller reportedly admitted to
issuing the threat and also behaved abusively with the police officer. Babbu said if a former minister and a person who served as an MLA for 25 years could receive open threats, questions would naturally arise about the safety of citizens.
Appealing to the Chief Minister, he urged that his complaint be taken seriously.
Meanwhile, Gorakhpur CSP M D Nagotiya said a case has been registered against an unidentified person for issuing death threats. Police are tracing the mobile number linked to the caller. The matter is under investigation.
