A massive fire broke out late Thursday night at a firecracker shop and warehouse in the Halalpur area of Bhopal, triggering continuous explosions and sending waves of panic through the neighbourhood. Officials on Friday confirmed that while the commercial establishment was completely gutted, resulting in financial losses worth lakhs of rupees, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. The blaze erupted at approximately 3:30 am at the Soni Firecracker Shop, located near a petrol pump on Bairagarh Road. The massive stockpiles of firecrackers inside the warehouse began exploding rapidly, projecting sparks, burning debris, and smoke across a wide perimeter.

 

These continuous detonations made it extremely difficult for the initial teams of fire-fighters to approach the core of the fire, as flames soared to heights of nearly 80 feet. Bhopal Municipal Corporation Fire Officer Saurabh Patel stated that the emergency team received the alert at around 4 am and immediately rushed fire tenders to the spot.

 

The firefighting operation was highly critical and complex due to the close proximity of a commercial petrol pump to the burning warehouse. To manage the high-risk situation, the local administration temporarily suspended electricity supply in the sector, while police teams barricaded the road to block vehicular and pedestrian movement. A co-ordinated deployment of 10 fire tenders from multiple stations, including Fatehgarh, Bairagarh, Gandhinagar, and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, battled the flames for over three hours before successfully bringing the situation under control. Although the shop was situated nearly half a kilometre away from the congested main Halalpur firecracker market, the surrounding residential areas were kept on high alert. Two additional water tankers have been stationed at the site as a precaution against potential reignition fuelled by rising daytime temperatures. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive technical investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
