Gittikhadan Police have arrested a history-sheeter and accused in a sensational 2022 double murder case after recovering three country-made pistols (mausers) and 10 live cartridges from his house in the Dabha area. The accused had recently come out of jail after being booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The arrested accused has been identified as Abbas alias Aabu Taiyyab Khan (25), a resident of Jai Santoshi Maa Housing Society, Dabha.
According to police, the action was carried out on the basis of a tip-off. Investigators had received information suspecting Abbas Khan’s involvement in the illegal sale of Mephedrone (MD) drugs. Acting on the input, a police team raided his residence and conducted a thorough search.
During the search, police recovered three illegal mausers and 10 live cartridges from the premises.
The accused was immediately taken into custody and brought to Gittikhadan Police Station for further questioning.
A senior police official said that the initial information received by the department was related to narcotics trafficking. However, the raid led to the recovery of illegal firearms instead. Police are now investigating the source of the weapons and whether they were intended for use in any criminal activity.
Abbas Khan is a known criminal with a serious criminal background. He was one of the key accused in the 2022 double
murder case investigated by Wadi Police. In that case, bootleggers Yogesh Meshram and Mahesh Gajbhiye were allegedly murdered over a rivalry linked to the illegal liquor trade on the Nagpur-Amravati Highway.
According to investigators, the victims were attacked and red chilli powder was thrown at the crime scene before their bodies were placed on a road divider in an attempt to make the murders appear as a road accident. Police have registered a fresh case under the Arms Act and further investigation is underway.
