All Government and private schools across Chhattisgarh will officially reopen on June 16 after the summer vacation. The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI), Government of Chhattisgarh, issued an order in this regard on Friday.
According to the directive, all schools will resume their regular schedules for the new academic session from June 16. The State Government will also launch the Shala Pravesh Utsav 2026 from the same day to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
In line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the School Education Department aims to provide students with a clean, welcoming, and high-quality learning environment. Secretary, School Education Department, Dr Kamalpreet Singh, has issued detailed guidelines for organising the admission festival across State.
To give the event a festive character, extensive publicity will be undertaken through
public announcements in villages and urban wards, besides banners, posters, and rallies.
Local public representatives, School Management and Development Committees, and parents will be actively involved in the programme. The department has directed all schools to complete cleaning and repair work of buildings before reopening. It has been made mandatory to finish all repair work by June 15 and ensure a child-friendly, “print-rich” environment with educational displays and learning materials on classroom walls. The admission process has also been streamlined. Children seeking admission to Class I will be enrolled based on lists received from Anganwadi centres, while admissions to Class VI will be facilitated using lists of students who have passed Class V, along with their transfer certificates from primary schools. Special emphasis will be laid on identifying school dropouts and bringing them back into the education system.
The department has also instructed officials to ensure 100 per cent attendance of students and teachers and to expedite the disposal of pending matters related to teachers. Subject teachers have been directed to prepare a three-month academic roadmap for the new session. Newly admitted children will receive a traditional welcome with a ‘tilak’ ceremony during the celebration.
Eligible students will also be provided with free textbooks, uniforms, and bicycles. Students excelling in board and local examinations, along with exemplary parents, will be felicitated during the event. The department will seek the support of local communities, health workers, self-help groups, and retired employees to make the campaign successful. Citizens will be encouraged to donate educational materials such as slates, pencils, notebooks, compass boxes, and school bags. The School Education Department has clarified that no separate budget will be allocated for Shala Pravesh Utsav, and the programme will be organised using resources available at the district level.
