After two days of intense heat with temperature hovering between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius, the city witnessed a dramatic weather shift on Friday evening that brought much needed relief for residents. The change came swiftly. At around 3.30 pm, thick dark clouds came without warning and blanketed over the city. Within minutes, strong winds started blowing at the speed of up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, creating near-storm conditions that rattled the city. Strong winds soon gave way to cool breeze. A spell of light rain followed, dropping temperature further and making conditions pleasant outdoors. It is reported that good rainfall occurred in areas surrounding the city, which helped cool the air significantly. However, the relief was uneven.

While conditions outside improved, residents indoors continued to suffer from heavy humidity and heat. The humid atmosphere inside homes offered little respite even as the outdoors cooled down. Power outages multiplied the misery. Several areas of the city experienced electricity cuts during and after the storm, leaving residents struggling without fans or coolers amid the harsh humidity. Spokesman of Weather Department informed that the monsoon typically enters Madhya Pradesh around June 16. It then reaches Jabalpur about six days later. Based on the pattern,

Jabalpur can expect the monsoon to arrive around June 22. Till then, pre-monsoon spell of thunderstorms and rain is expected to continue across Jabalpur and rest of the State. The Weather Department clarified that monsoon rainfall is officially recorded from June 1 to September 30. Any rainfall occurring before the monsoon’s formal arrival is classified as pre-monsoon activity. For now, residents must brace for more such spells before the monsoon brings sustained relief.
