Staff Reporter :
A severe water crisis has gripped 90 per cent of the city following a major power failure at Navegaon Raw Water Pumping Station on Friday. The power outage was caused by a sudden technical fault at the Mansar sub-station of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). However, due to the unexpected shutdown, citizens across nine major municipal zones will experience low water pressure or temporary disruptions starting from Friday evening. Administrative authorities have warned that if power is not restored entirely, the morning water supply scheduled for Saturday will also be severely affected.
Because the Navegaon Khairy Dam stands as the sole source of raw water feeding the Gorewada and Godhani Water Treatment Plants which directly supply all four critical city networks (Pench I, II, III, and IV), the abrupt electrical shutdown has completely halted raw water pumping operations. Consequently, water treatment and distribution grids across the city have been heavily disrupted.
Municipal and water works officials are currently co-ordinating closely with MSEDCL engineers to repair the substation fault and restore power at the earliest. Once grid electricity is re-established, pumping
operations will resume immediately to stabilise the treatment and distribution networks as quickly as possible.
The impending supply disruptions will hit several prominent Consumer Areas (CAs) across the city. Affected residential sectors include the Laxmi Nagar Zone (covering Laxmi Nagar Old/New, Gayatri Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Khamla, Takli Seem, Jaitala, and Trimurti Nagar) and the Dharampeth Zone (including Ram Nagar ESR/GSR, Futala Line, Civil Lines, Rifle Line, Seminary Hills, Dabha, Tekdi Wadi, IBM DT, Sitabuldi, and Dhantoli). In Hanuman Nagar Zone, Chinchbhavan, Omkar Nagar, Hudkeshwar, Shri Nagar, Nalanda Nagar, and the Narsala tapping areas will face shortages, alongside Wanjari Nagar, Reshimbagh, and Hanuman Nagar in Dhantoli Zone.
Similarly, the water cuts will impact Sakkardara, Bidipeth, and Balaji Nagar in the Nehru Nagar Zone; Sitabuldi Fort, Killa Mahal, Godrej Anandam, and the Medical feeder in the Gandhibagh Zone; and Boriyapura, the Central Railway line, and Vahan Thikana in the Satranjipura Zone. Finally, the supply lines in the Ashi Nagar Zone (Nara, Nari, and Jaripatka) and the Mangalwari Zone (Gittikhadan, Gorewada, Rajnagar, and Sadar) will remain affected. Consumers are strictly requested to use water judiciously during this emergency period.
