An 11-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident after a dog leash got tightened around his neck while he was playing alone in his room at his residence near IT Park in the Pratap Nagar area. Police suspect that the leash stretched tightly when the wheelchair he was standing on suddenly slipped away.
The deceased has been identified as Malhar Rangari, a Class 5 student and a resident of Shewalkar Building near IT Park.
According to police, Malhar’s father, Anmol Rangari, works in the private sector, while his mother is employed at a bank.
The couple has two children, including a 14-year-old daughter. On Friday afternoon, Malhar was at home with family members. The family also owns a pet dog.
Police suspect that while playing on Friday at 2.30 pm, Malhar took the dog’s leash into a room. He reportedly stood on a wheelchair kept inside the room and tied the leash to a window grille. While making a noose-like loop, the wheelchair suddenly slipped
forward from under his feet.
As a result, the leash tightened around his neck.
When Malhar did not come out of the room for a long time, family members became worried and started searching for him. When they entered the room, they were horrified to find him hanging from the leash. Family members immediately brought him down, but he had already stopped breathing.
The incident has completely shattered the family.
Malhar’s mother was devastated after learning about her son’s death and reportedly kept fainting due to the shock and grief.
Police said there is no evidence suggesting suicide. Initial investigations revealed that Malhar did not even own a mobile phone and was known as a bright, cheerful and talented child. He performed well in studies, dance and other activities.
Pratap Nagar Police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is underway to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
