The eggs prices have witnessed a steep rise in the wholesale market due to higher demand and escalating animal feed costs. As the temperature declined due to light showers in the past few days the demand for eggs has increased significantly not just in Nagpur but across the country. The egg prices are rising on account of higher demand and rising animal feed costs, said Moiz Burhani of Vidarbha Eggs, located at Mahatma Phule Wholesale Market while speaking to The Hitavada. The egg prices are being quoted at Rs 6.4 per piece, as compared to Rs 6 per piece, a week ago in the wholesale market,” said Moiz Burhani of Vidarbha Eggs,

Mahatma Phule Wholesale Market while speaking to The Hitavada. Burhani further said, “With a decline in temperature the demand for eggs has sharply increased by 30 to 35 per cent, pushing its price northwards. Also, sustained shortage of soybean meal and escalating feed costs has adversely impact poultry farms and profitability across the value chain,” he pointed out. Currently, the egg prices were quoted at a high of Rs 6.40 per piece in the wholesale market. In retail, the eggs are available at Rs 7 per piece to Rs 8 per piece, depending on the locality. He expects the egg prices to jump to Rs 7 per piece within a few days. On a daily average 15 lakh eggs to 16 lakh eggs are brought to the wholesale market. Out of this, about 10 lakh eggs are consumed within the city itself while the remaining eggs are sent to nearby locations like Bhandara, Wardha, Chandrapur among other places, he added.
