In a spine-chilling accident, two persons were burnt alive after a speeding dumper rammed into their Scorpio car near Sharda Mandir under the jurisdiction of Barela police station. The impact was so severe that the car got stuck under the dumper’s front section.
Shockingly, the dumper driver did not stop and dragged the car for nearly half a kilometre. During this time, the dragged car collided with another vehicle parked ahead, triggering a massive fire in the vehicle.
Two occupants in the car were unable to escape and were burnt alive inside the burning vehicle. Locals rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames and rescue the trapped passengers, but the fire intensified rapidly, making rescue impossible. The horrific scene caused panic among bystanders.
Police and fire brigade teams immediately reached the spot after
being informed. Firefighters managed to douse the fire after considerable effort. However, by then the car was completely gutted. During the search operation, police recovered two severely charred bodies from the wreckage. The bodies were sent to a Government hospital for post-mortem after completing panchnama proceedings at the site.
Following the incident, the dumper driver abandoned the vehicle and managed to escape from the spot. Barela police have registered a case against an unidentified driver under charges and started a rigorous search for him. A special police team is scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the dumper and trace the driver and owner. Locals alleged that reckless driving by heavy vehicles on this route frequently leads to accidents. The damaged vehicles were later removed using cranes and traffic was restored on the route.
