The Agriculture Department has assured farmers that there is no shortage of urea in Nagpur district, with 16,573 metric tonnes of urea and 3,158 metric tonnes of DAP currently available through authorised fertiliser dealers.
In addition, a buffer stock of 5,250 metric tonnes of urea and 1,355 metric tonnes of DAP has been stored in warehouses of the Maharashtra Agro Industries Development Corporation and the Vidarbha Cooperative Marketing Federation to ensure uninterrupted supply during the kharif season.
Officials said 34,513 metric tonnes of urea had been received in the district against an allocation of 24,564 metric tonnes for the April-June period. Of this, 17,940 metric tonnes has already been purchased by farmers through PoS machines.
For DAP, the district has received 10,947 metric tonnes against an allocation of 12,546 metric tonnes, with 7,789 metric tonnes already sold and 3,158 metric tonnes remaining in stock.
The Agriculture Department has also made fertiliser stock information available to farmers through a dedicated on-line platform displaying the availability of fertilisers at all 1,522 licensed agricultural service centres in the district.
In view of expected difficulties in DAP availability due to the Gulf conflict, farmers have been advised to use alternative fertiliser combinations, including urea with SSP or TSP, wherever suitable.
Ravindra Manohare, District Superintendent Agriculture Officer, appealed to farmers not to believe rumours about fertiliser shortages and urged them not to make panic purchases.
