JASHPUR :
A long-standing demand of the people of Jashpur and Surguja districts has moved significantly closer to realisation, with the Central Government officially notifying the Dharamjaigarh-Patthalgaon-Lohardaga New Railway Line Project in the Gazette of
India. The notification marks a crucial milestone in the project’s journey, formally bringing it under the ambit of government implementation and paving the way for the next stages of development.
The announcement has generated widespread enthusiasm across the region, where residents have awaited improved rail connectivity for decades. The proposed railway corridor is expected to emerge as a major driver of economic, social and industrial growth in Jashpur, Surguja and adjoining areas of Jharkhand. Once completed, the rail line is expected to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade and commerce, improve access to education and healthcare, and create employment opportunities for thousands of people.
Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hailed the notification as a historic achievement and a landmark step towards the region’s development. They expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for their efforts in advancing the long-pending project.
Lok Sabha MP Radheshyam Rathia said the Centre had honoured the aspirations of the people by approving a demand that had remained pending for several decades.
He noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, railway expansion and modernization are progressing at an unprecedented pace across the country, and the new railway line would play a pivotal role in integrating tribal regions with the mainstream of development.
Patthalgaon MLA Gomti Sai described the gazette notification as a historic achievement for the Jashpur region. She said Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai had consistently pursued the project and strongly advocated for the region’s interests before the Centre. According to her, the railway line would open new avenues of growth and prosperity for farmers, traders and the youth.
Jashpur MLA Raimuni Bhagat said the project represented much more than a rail connectivity initiative, calling it a foundation for the district’s future development. She added that the project aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’ and would
benefit future generations.
Former BJP State General Secretary Krishna Kumar Rai said the long-cherished dream of the people of Jashpur and Surguja was finally nearing fulfillment. He expressed confidence that the railway project would provide fresh momentum to economic activities and accelerate regional development.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Ranvijay Singh Judev termed the decision a historic step towards integrating tribal-dominated areas with the national development framework. He lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and said the railway line had the potential to transform the socio-economic landscape of the region.
Zila Panchayat President Salik Sai said the project would significantly boost economic activities in rural areas by providing farmers with better access to larger markets and generating employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth. BJP district president Bharat Singh described the gazette notification as a reflection of the ‘double-engine government’s’ commitment to development. He said the decision would be remembered as a milestone in the history of Jashpur district.
Party leaders expressed confidence that the notification would expedite land acquisition and other preparatory processes, paving the way for early commencement of construction work. They said that once rail services become operational on the Dharamjaigarh-Patthalgaon-Lohardaga route, Jashpur, Surguja and neighbouring regions would enter a new phase of development marked by enhanced employment prospects, tourism growth and industrial expansion. Widely regarded as more than just a transportation project, the Dharamjaigarh-Patthalgaon-Lohardaga railway line is seen as a transformative infrastructure initiative that could connect remote tribal regions with broader economic opportunities and usher in a new era of regional prosperity.
