Bhilai and Durg have added another achievement to their adventure sports record as three local trekkers successfully completed the prestigious Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal, one of the world's most challenging and celebrated trekking expeditions.
The 18-day journey began on May 15 from Bhilai and concluded with the team's return on June 1. The participants included Koteshwar Rao of Khursipar, Bhilai, who is employed with the Railways in Charoda, Mini Raj of Hudco, Bhilai, and Nidhi Jain of Padmanabhpur, Durg. Koteshwar Rao and Mini Raj are lifetime members of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) and have participated in several national and local trekking programmes. Nidhi Jain joined the expedition from Kathmandu.
The trek was organised through Tap Life Adventure and High Five Company.
The trek commenced from Lukla, known for its challenging airport and short runway. The team passed through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Deboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep before reaching the Everest Base Camp. During the journey, the trekkers also visited the famous Tengboche Monastery and witnessed breathtaking views of Mount Everest.
Despite facing extreme cold, high altitude, fog and difficult
terrain, the team successfully reached Everest Base Camp and celebrated the achievement by saluting the Indian Tricolour. The return journey was equally challenging, with participants experiencing altitude-related health issues and adverse weather conditions.
The trekkers described the expedition as the most difficult, memorable and rewarding adventure of their lives.
