In a tragic incident, a forest security guard was killed after being attacked by a tiger in the Ghanghar Nala area near the camp in compartment number 136 of Nakti Ghati Beat of Kanha Tiger Reserve, on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Lakhan Singh (29), son of Buddh Singh, a resident of Amagahan village in Balaghat district and posted as Fire Protection Worker.
According to Kanha Tiger Reserve Administration, the incident took place when a tiger attacked a forest patrol team in the Ghanghar Nala area. In the attack, Lakhan Singh, an Agni Suraksha (fire protection) worker lost his life while performing his duty.
As per information, the tiger suddenly attacked the patrolling team during routine morning surveillance. As soon as information about the incident was received, senior forest officials rushed to the spot and informed the deceased’s family members.
The body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem examination and further legal formalities. Immediate financial assistance has been provided to the bereaved family, while the remaining compensation amount will be released soon in accordance with the Government rules.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Kanha Tiger Reserve management said, “Lakhan Singh sacrificed his life while carrying out intensive patrolling in a remote forest area inhabited by dangerous wild animals and while contributing to wildlife protection.”
The reserve authorities also expressed gratitude to all forest personnel across India who continue to safeguard wildlife under challenging conditions, often risking their own lives in the line of duty.
