A city does not come to standstill because of traffic - it comes to standstill when authorities stop caring. For nearly a year, commuters travelling from Swargiya Yeshwantrao Chavan Square, Chhatrapati Square, to Narendra Nagar and vice versa have been paying the price for an unfinished pipeline project that has transformed a vital road into a daily battleground of congestion, confusion and frustration. What should be a busy but functional stretch has instead become a narrow bottleneck where only one small car can pass it at a time. Vehicles approaching from opposite directions are forced into an endless wait, while impatient motorists attempt to squeeze through every possible angle. The result is complete disorder - continuous traffic jams, blaring horns, near misses and frequent arguments between commuters who are simply trying to get home or reach work on time.

With no one enforcing lane discipline or regulating movement, traffic rules become meaningless, creating a dangerous situation for everyone. Residents say, this is no temporary inconvenience, but a problem that has persisted for almost an entire year. A project that should have been completed by now has instead become a permanent obstacle, raising serious questions about planning, execution and accountability,” shared Dipti Maheswari, a resident. The question should be raised about how such an important connecting road remain dug up for months without any visible urgency and who is responsible for hours wasted by citizens everyday. Arguments have become a part of the daily chaos, there is not a single time I have not seen people cutting each other with words,” said a daily commuter. Contradicting the statement of residents, Abhijeet Netam, Deputy Engineer, PWD, Laxmi Nagar Zone 1 stated that the work is under process since approximately 3 months. The work of sewer pipeline is in process since almost three months and is almost finished. The project will be completed within 10 days,” said Netam.

The consequences go beyond inconvenience. Ambulances risk getting stuck, office-goers arrive late, businesses suffer reduced footfall, fuel is wasted in long queues and pollution levels continue to rise as vehicles idle for extended periods. Every day of delay imposes an invisible cost on the public, while the silence from the authorities grows louder. Development cannot be measured by roads that are dedicated the public, but never finished. This is where public patience is tested daily and administrative indifference brings an entire neighborhood to a standstill.
