NSUI stages protest against rejection

Following a call from the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Jabalpur unit on Tuesday staged a fierce protest against the rejection of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination. Led by District President Sachin Rajak, angry NSUI workers marched towards Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office, raising slogans against the State Government and alleging serious irregularities in the electoral process. The protesters claimed that disqualifying the Congress candidate raises grave questions about the impartiality of constitutional institutions and democratic values. The situation escalated dramatically when a large crowd of NSUI workers tried to advance toward the BJP office from Ranital Square. Anticipating trouble, the police administration had set up heavy barricading to halt their progress.

A heated argument quickly turned into a physical scuffle as protestors tried to forcefully break through the barriers, leading to a highly tense standoff. To bring the volatile situation under control and disperse the crowd, the police ultimately resorted to using water cannons. The NSUI leaders stated that rejection of our candidate’s nomination is not just an injustice to an individual, but a direct assault on the spirit of the Constitution and our democratic framework. NSUI office-bearers accused the State Government of suppressing the voice of the opposition and crushing democratic rights. Activists warned that if fairness and transparency are not immediately restored in this matter, the student and youth community will be forced to launch a massive, statewide public agitation. Other prominent leaders who were present during the protest include National Secretary, NSUI, Karan Tamsetwar, State Vice-president, Amit Mishra, Devki Patel and others.
