TOP seed Rohan Singh, Priyanshu Dubey, Chunharmeet Sokhi and Ameya Naktode made it to the men’s singles semi-finals in the Baidyanath-Yonex-Sunrise Nagpur District Badminton Championship in progress at Subhedar Badminton Hall, RTMNU Sports Complex, Ravi Nagar, on Tuesday.
As many as 134 matches in different age groups were played on Tuesday.
While Singh and Naktode conserved their energy with straight games wins in their respective quarter-finals, Dubey and Sokhi were stretched to the limit by their opponents.
Singh got past Arnav Nimbalkar 15-12, 15-12 and Naktode defeated Akshad Vitonde 15-7, 15-7.
Dubey fought back from a game down to upset Nabeel Ahmed 12-15, 20-18, 15-5. Sokhi also followed the suit in piping Sanidhya Khandare 13-15, 15-8, 20-18.
In women’s singles quarters, Niraja Kulkarni beat Mugdha Sawarkar 15-11, 15-10 while Tinku Ninave lost her way in the second gam to finally prevail over Aishwarya Pimpalapure 15-7,
8-15, 15-9.
Ditisha Somkuwar raced past Rudrani Kunte 15-3, 15-6 without even breaking a sweat. In men’s doubles last-eight matches, the pair of Dipanshu Shukla and Nabeel defeated Sourabh Kerhalkar and Vedit Chokhani 15-8, 15-9 while the duo of Aaryan Sadhankar and Gaurav Rege beat Arnav Nimbalkar and Jeeva Pillai 15-13, 15-9.
In mixed doubles quarters, Vansh Jodhani and Madhu Adwani gelled well in their 15-9, 15-8 win over Ajay Rana and Prerna Morkhade.
Singh and Krisha Soni made light work of Tekendra Sanodiya and Avani Peshkar winning in straight games 15-10, 15-5.
All the semi-finals and finals will be played on Wednesday.
In U-9 boys singles, Ayaan Tamhan (1), Ayansh Karare, Swayam Subhlok and Shaurya Chitlange entered semis while in girls, Aanya Jha (1), Aarna Mishra (4), Samyra Barbat and Shuddhi Yadav completed the semis line-up.
