District administration all set for MLC bye-poll today

The District administration has set up 14 polling centres across district for the June 18 bye-election to the lone seat of Maharashtra Legislative Council in Nagpur District from Nagpur Local Self Government bodies. There are 836 eligible voters, the corporators of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and councillors of various Nagar Parishad and Nagar Panchayat. District Collector Kumar Ashirwad said the arrangement is complete. Of the 836 voters, 419 are male while 417 are female. NMC corporators polling is arranged at the office of Tehsildar, Nagpur, in Civil Lines. Post polling, the ballot units will be taken to the strong room at Bachat Bhavan in District Collectorate, Civil Lines.
 
The polling station at Narkhed Tehsil office is for voters from Narkhed and Mowad Nagar Parishad, while the one at Katol Tehsil office will be polling centre for voters from Katol Nagar Parishad and Kondhali Nagar Panchayat respectively. Kalmeshwar Tehsil office is for the voters of Kalmeshwar-Brahmani Nagar Parishad and Mohpa Nagar Parishad voters. Thereafter, in Saoner Tehsil office, the voters of Saoner Nagar Parishad and Khapa Nagar Parishad would be able to cast their votes. Similarly, at Parseoni Teshil office, voters from Parseoni Nagar Panchayat and for those from Kanhan Nagar Parishad, the booth is set up at Nagar Parishad office itself and for voters from Pimpri Nagar Parishad and Kandri Nagar Panchayat.

The fate of the two candidates will be sealed on Thursday when the members of civic bodies and eligible voters will exercise their franchise for Maharashtra Legislative Council by-poll for Nagpur. Congress has fielded its State Spokesperson Atul Londhe while Dr Rajiv Potdar, an experienced party worker is contesting from BJP. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti holds a clear numerical advantage over the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Of the total electorate of 836 voters, Mahayuti is estimated to have the support of approximately 538 voters, while the MVA’s strength is around 213 voters.
