It seems that State will soon join league of Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam which have implemented Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in their states. As ‘The Hitavada’ had reported earlier that State is moving rapidly advancing in this direction. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday has made an important statement by saying that the UCC bill would be introduced during the Monsoon Session and expressed confidence that it will be passed with the blessings of Shri Lord Mahakal. Keeping tribal communities exempted, State Government is planning to implement the code soon. Affirming ‘One Nation, One Law’, thought Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that there is nothing wrong with the idea of implementing a uniform law across the country, moreover, it is an effort to foster equality within society. As far as upcoming session of Assembly is concerned, his Government will bring many important and contemporary issues to the session.

A six-member committee has already been set up a couple of month ago to have suggestions from different sections and religion of society in the State. A website regarding the UCC was also launched. The committee is chaired by Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai, former judge of the Supreme Court. Other members include retired IAS officer Shatrughna Singh, legal expert Anoop Nair, educationist Gopal Sharma and social worker Budhpal Singh. Ajay Katesariya, Additional Secretary in the General Administration Department, has been appointed as the Secretary of the committee. The panel has examined models adopted by states such as Uttarakhand and Gujarat, while taking into account the social, cultural and economic realities of Madhya Pradesh. Notably, the Monsoon Session of State Assembly will be held from July 20 to 24. Expressing concern, the Opposition Congress party intensified its reservation over the implementation of the said bill terming it an attempt to divide people in the name of equality.
