Reflecting the country’s growing pace of achieving self-reliance in the field of defence manufacturing, city-based Solar Industries India on Thursday supplied 100th indigenous propulsion booster for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. At a special ceremony held in the company’s facility near Bazargaon, chief guest of the function Dr Jaiteerth Joshi, Director General of BrahMos, DRDO and CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, flagged off the consignment in presence Dr C Chandrasekhar, Deputy CEO of BrahMos Aerospace; Padma Shri Satyanarayan Nuwal, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Solar Industries India Ltd; Major General Vasudhesh Arya (Retd), Executive Director of Solar Industries; and others.
In addition to the 100th booster consignment, the company also delivered India’s first indigenous BrahMos warheads.
The critical propulsion boosters were previously imported from Russia.
However, with the technology transfer and following successful trials, its manufacturing
started in the country involving private players. Solar Industries officially commenced the production of solid propellant boosters for BrahMos missiles in 2022.
On the occasion, Dr Jaiteerth Joshi said the BrahMos weapon system today stands as a symbol of India’s technological excellence and operational strength. “The 100th booster dispatch is not just a delivery of another production unit, but it is a significant milestone in the journey towards self-reliance in critical defense technologies.
“It reflects years of sustained efforts. Initially, we were importing these products. But High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) and the propulsion team of Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) have indigenised this and brought it to this shape. In the last four years, we have reached the target of manufacturing the 100th missile,” he added.
Dr Joshi further added that the journey to this milestone was not without significant adversity. “We encountered technical hurdles, operational bottlenecks, and various setbacks along the way. However, every obstacle became an opportunity to learn, improve, and strengthen the programme.
Through perseverance, innovation, and teamwork, we transformed those lessons into a robust and reliable production capability,” he said.
In his address, Dr C Chandrasekhar highlighted the need to further increase the production capacity of the products.
Expressing his views, Satyanarayan Nuwal said Solar Industries is all set to double the production capacity of the boosters in coming months. “We are ready to invest in and expand our infrastructure, reflecting the company's commitment to contributing to nation-building,” he said.
Sweta Shelgaonkar conducted the proceedings of the ceremony and also proposed a vote of thanks.
