In a significant step towards enhancing energy efficiency and optimizing power costs across its operations, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) launched its Energy Management Dashboard on Monday.
Developed in coordination with MSEDCL, the Energy Management Dashboard is designed to provide real-time insights into electricity consumption patterns and identify opportunities for power cost savings across WCL’s mining operations. The dashboard enables comprehensive monitoring and analysis of energy usage, facilitating informed and data-driven decision-making.
Key features of the dashboard include monitoring of prompt payment rebate savings, identification of high contract demand penalties, assessment of losses arising from underutilized contract demand, and analysis of power factor performance. The system also supports reactive power management and detailed load pattern monitoring at each point of supply, enabling better demand forecasting and operational planning.
Additionally, the dashboard incorporates Demand Side Management (DSM) tools to help reduce peak demand, improve load management, and optimize energy utilization. By providing actionable insights, the initiative is expected to significantly contribute towards reducing electricity costs, improving operational efficiency, and promoting sustainable mining practices.
The dashboard was inaugurated by Dr Hemant Sharad Pande, CMD, WCL, in presence of Director (Technical/Operations) Anand Prasad and Director (Technical/Planning & Projects) S Paranjape.
The innovative dashboard has been developed through the efforts of the Systems Department under the leadership of GM (Systems) P G Chaudhary.
The features and operational benefits of the dashboard were demonstrated by GM (E&M) Manoj Ade along with his team.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hemant Sharad Pande appreciated the efforts of the Systems and E&M teams and emphasized the importance of digital technologies and data analytics in achieving operational excellence and resource optimization. He stated that such initiatives align with WCL’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cost-effective operations.
The Energy Management Dashboard marks another milestone in WCL’s ongoing digital transformation journey and reinforces the company’s focus on leveraging technology for enhanced productivity, energy conservation, and sustainable growth.
