TO FURTHER strengthen the sports culture in Nagpur city, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Sports Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and HCL Foundation on the occasion of International Olympic Day in presence of Mayor Nita Thakre on Tuesday. ‘Khelo Nagpur Excellence Centre’ for training in sports like rugby, fencing and archery will be started. Municipal Commissioner DrVipin Itankar from NMC and SVP Global CSR and Director of HCL Tech from HCL Foundation Dr Nidhi Pundhir signed the agreement. Under this MoU, the students of Nagpur will now get world-class training and stateof-the-art facilities in the above mentioned sports.

 

Mayor Thakre expressed her confidence that this will produce many Olympic athletes from Nagpur in the coming times. On this occasion, Chairperson of the Sports Special Committee Darshani Dhawad, Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Mangesh Khawale and Sports Officer Dr Piyush Ambulkar were prominently present. Also, AGM of HCL Foundation PrijoeTharu, Manager Piyush Wankhede and Sports SPOShubham Nautiyal were present. Sportspersons of the NMC schools whohave achieved excellence in the field of sportswere felicitated by dignitaries. Sagar Gaudiya(kabaddi), Madhu Sahu (kabaddi), GaneshGujam (kho kho), Sarvari Phale (football),Pranay Upaya (athletics) and Gauri Nath(volleyball) were felicitated. Pankaj Mahajan, Anas Akhtar, ShubhamPalkar, Gajanan Thakre, Dixit Neware, Bhagyashree Patil were present on theoccasion.
