BHILAI :
Rainfall activity is expected to intensify across Chhattisgarh from June 27 as weather systems become more active over the region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Raipur.
The IMD said light to moderate rainfall was recorded at isolated places across the state during the past 24 hours. Kusmi and Bastar received 3 cm of rainfall each, while Bakavand, Balrampur and Gidam recorded 2 cm of rain. Bilaspur was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius, while Pendra Road recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 23 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to the seasonal trough extending from north Rajasthan to Bihar through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.
These systems are expected to strengthen monsoon activity across the state in the coming days.
The forecast for Friday indicates light to moderate rain at a few places,
while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated locations. During the following two days, rainfall is expected to increase further, with light to moderate rain at many places and heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to continue. The IMD has warned that moderate to severe lightning activity may persist over Chhattisgarh during the next seven days.
It also stated that conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the state within the next three to four days. For Raipur city, the forecast predicts a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 38 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.
