The investigation into the Ecological Park blind murder case in Bhopal has escalated after forensic experts and local police executed a physical reconstruction of the crime scene using a mannequin on Friday. The accused, Ajay Singh Mewada, who is currently held in police remand until June 30, was brought back to the highway culvert near Jhagaria to demonstrate how he lured and killed Rajesh Rai. Investigators monitored the step-by-step recreation to align physical evidence with the confession, establishing how the two met, consumed alcohol, and how the fatal assault unfolded. During the on-site recreation, the accused demonstrated the chilling sequence of events to the investigation team. He showed how he stripped the victim’s shirt, forced him to consume two bottles of country liquor, and waited for him to lose consciousness on the roadside. Once the victim was heavily intoxicated, Mewada dragged him nearly 15 meters down beneath the highway bridge, where he violently smashed his head against a boulder and engaged in an unnatural sexual act before fleeing with his mobile phone.

The forensic science laboratory experts and local police spent approximately two hours, from 1 pm to 3 pm, conducting a highly detailed spatial analysis of the crime scene. Sunil Dubey, who supervises the local police precinct, confirmed that the primary goal of the reconstruction was to cross-verify the statements of the accused against physical footprints and medical reports. Mewada remains under active interrogation as detectives work to secure corroborative evidence before his custody period expires. Gender-based dating applications exploited to snare targets: Interrogations have exposed a wider pattern of predatory behaviour, with Mewada confessing to using multiple gender-based social media and dating applications to solicit sexual encounters. The accused revealed that he regularly established physical contact with individuals met through these digital portals, occasionally charging money for sexual favours. He confessed to actively cruising key urban transit zones, including Prabhat Chouraha, the Board Office square, and the Naka area during late-night hours to locate vulnerable targets.

Investigations revealed that Mewada worked as a delivery executive for several major online commercial platforms, specifically choosing late-night shifts to navigate the city. After completing his deliveries, he would purchase alcohol and drive around secluded routes to locate lone men. He utilised a systematic pattern of offering free alcohol to establish quick rapport, subsequently exploiting their intoxicated state to commit sexual assaults under the cover of darkness. The investigation has taken a critical medical turn after health screenings revealed that Mewada is HIV positive. Sunil Dubey stated that specialised cyber units are currently auditing the suspect’s mobile phones, call logs, and social media footprints to compile a list of individuals who interacted with him. Authorities are working to discreetly identify and contact these individuals to offer medical guidance, while concurrently probing whether the suspect has targeted women, though no female victims have been identified so far.
