RIDING on a hat-trick by Arsalan Akther, Porwal Academy emerged champions in the U-17 boys Late Sardar Atal Bahadur Youth Football Championship that concluded at NDFA ground on Saturday. Porwal Academy blanked Nobel Sports Academy 4-0 making the summit clash a no-contest. All the four goals were scored in the second half after the teams were locked 0-0 at the break. For his goals in the 38th 42nd and 51st minutes, Akther was named Man of the Final. Vansh Pounikar (46th) added one in between. Akshay Pande was declared Man of the Match (Runners-up). Rabbani’s Abdul Rehman took the Best Forward award with Best Half being Nirbhay Bhange from FSA. Winners Porwal took home Rs 5000 while runners-up won a purse of Rs 3000. Senior Sports Officer SECR Dilip Singh was chief guest of the prize distribution function while Asif Sheikh, Chairperson, Ashi Nagar Zone was the guest of honour. Haresh Vora, President, NDFA; Iqbal Kashmiri, Secretary; Dr Stanley Gregory, Abid Khan, Hemant Sahani, Dr Kamal Ansari, Khalid Ansari, AB Khan, Mehfooz Akhtar, Rajesh Raut, Ankush Bhadange and Pappan Pramanik were prominently present on the occasion.
