A suspected case of cybercrime has come to light in the city after a woman doctor alleged that the CCTV cameras installed at her residence were hacked, with threatening voices reportedly heard through the devices’ microphones. The complainant, Dr Prachi Saxena, a resident of Adarsh Nagar under the jurisdiction of Gorakhpur police station, has lodged a complaint, prompting police to initiate an investigation. According to Dr Saxena, CCTV cameras had been installed at her home for security purposes.
Around 10 days back, she began hearing unusual and threatening voices coming from the cameras. Initially, she suspected a technical fault, but later claimed that the sounds included a child crying as well as a man issuing threats. She further stated that whenever she attempted to
record the voices using her mobile phone, the sound would immediately stop. Growing suspicious, she covered the camera with a cloth and disconnected it without informing anyone. Following her complaint, Gorakhpur police seized two CCTV cameras from her residence and sent them to a forensic laboratory for technical examination. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the cameras were remotely accessed and identify those responsible.
Dr Saxena alleged that the voice heard through the camera contained abusive language and threats, leaving her with the impression that someone was constantly monitoring the activities inside her home. Police have treated the complaint seriously and launched a detailed cyber investigation. Further action will be taken after the forensic analysis of the seized CCTV cameras is completed.
