Commuting on the roads of the State capital after sunset has become increasingly hazardous as unchecked speeding and reckless driving continue to claim innocent lives. In a grim reminder of this growing traffic crisis, three individuals, including two women, who were critically injured in separate road accidents across the Nishatpura police station jurisdiction, have succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Following the deaths of the victims, the local police have upgraded the charges against the errant drivers to more severe criminal provisions and initiated comprehensive investigations after handing over the bodies to their respective families following post-mortem examinations.
Elderly labourer run over by speeding passenger bus:
The first tragic incident occurred on the morning of June 20 near the busy Karond Mandi commercial hub. Suman Bai, a 60-year-old labourer residing in a temporary settlement located between the twin railway gates at Kainchi Chhola, was walking out of a weighing bridge facility when a speeding passenger bus struck her from behind. The severe impact caused the rear wheel of the heavy vehicle to run over her arm, inflicting critical internal injuries and compound fractures.
She was immediately rushed to Hamidia Hospital for emergency medical intervention, where she eventually passed away on Friday night after battling for her life for nearly a week.
A parallel fatal collision unfolded on Tuesday when a couple navigating the roadways on a scooter was violently struck by an unidentified speeding car. Kiran Singh, 55, was travelling with her husband toward the Navi Bagh locality when the errant motorist rammed their two-wheeler from behind near Ras Dhan Garden. The collision threw both riders onto the asphalt, leaving Kiran Singh with life-threatening head and chest trauma. While her husband survived with minor bruises, she was rushed to a nearby private healthcare facility where she breathed her last during emergency treatment on Friday. In the third road accident reported from the Karond locality, a pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a high-speed motorcycle while attempting to cross a busy arterial route. Deepak Sharma, 53, was walking toward the Shiv Parvati Temple when a speeding two-wheeler crashed directly into him as he stepped onto the main road. Passers-by and witnesses immediately intervened to rescue the severely injured pedestrian, co-ordinating his emergency evacuation to Hamidia Hospital.
