CM announces 3-month extension, surcharge waiver for outstanding electricity bills

RAIPUR :

The State Government has announced a major relief package for electricity consumers across Chhattisgarh. Speaking at the Kabir Jayanti Festival, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai declared that consumers with long-standing electricity bill arrears will be granted a three-month grace period to clear their dues. Under this special initiative, the Government is completely waiving off the late payment surcharge, a move expected to provide significant financial breathing room to millions of households. The Chief Minister said that a substantial number of consumers in State have been struggling under the weight of accumulated power bill defaults. To address this, the administration is allowing all such consumers to settle their accounts over the next three months without the penalty fees that typically stack up over time. The main objective behind the directive is to ease the financial burden on citizens and facilitate a smoother debt-clearance process.

In addition to the surcharge waiver, the Chief Minister announced a special 10 percent discount for eligible consumers who step forward to clear their outstanding balances within the designated three-month window. This discount will directly reduce the principal amount owed, allowing families to settle their long-standing liabilities at a heavily discounted rate. The State Government has issued an appeal to all eligible electricity consumers, urging them to utilize this limited-time relief scheme before the three-month deadline expires. While the policy acts as an immediate financial buffer for citizens burdened by utility debt, administrative officials believe the structured window will also help state power distribution companies successfully recover massive outstanding revenues that have been locked up in defaults.
