RAIPUR :
After months of uncertainty, the district administration on Monday launched an eviction drive in Nakti village under the Mana area, deploying nearly 1,000 police personnel and earthmoving machines to remove alleged encroachments from Government land.
The operation began shortly after midnight amid tight security. According to officials, the Revenue Department had issued eviction notices for the demolition of 77 illegally-constructed houses over 9 hectares land in Wards 16 and 17 of the
village. The administration said the action was being carried out to clear unauthorised occupation of government land. The eviction triggered protests from local residents, who claimed they had been living on the land for several years. Villagers also alleged that many of the houses marked for demolition had been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, raising concerns over the legitimacy of the action.
With claims and counterclaims from both sides, the presence of a large police force created a tense atmosphere in the village as the demolition exercise continued. The forces also faced some resistance from the people. However, the situation was kept under control.
Alongside the encroachment removal drive, the district administration has initiated rehabilitation measures for 75 affected
families. According to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, arrangements are being made to temporarily and permanently relocate the displaced families to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing in Sector 30 of Naya Raipur. The process of allotting the houses is currently underway.
