Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin visiting households across the district from today, as the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls enters the field verification stage. The month-long exercise will cover all 46.38 lakh registered voters in the district. A total of 4,610 BLOs have been deployed to distribute two copies of the pre-filled Enumeration Form to every elector between June 30 and July 29. Each form will carry the voter’s existing electoral details, photograph, QR code, and the name and mobile number of the concerned BLO. Electors will be required to verify the information, update it wherever necessary, and return the signed form to the BLO.

Kumar Ashirwad, District Collector, has appealed to citizens to co-operate fully with the exercise, stating that, the revision aims to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible name remains on the electoral roll. “Our endeavour is to ensure that every eligible elector gets sufficient opportunity to verify his or her details. BLOs have been instructed to visit every household up to three times so that no voter is left out merely because no one was present during the first visit,’ he had said, while briefing mediapersons ahead of the drive. The Collector said that even if a household is found locked during all three visits, electors will still be able to submit claims and objections after the draft electoral roll is published on August 5.

The claim and objection period will continue till September 4, while hearings on objections will be conducted up to October 3. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7. Officials said, digitally literate voters may also fill the Enumeration Form online through the Election Commission’s website from Monday. Under the verification process, voters whose names appeared in both the 2002 and 2024 electoral rolls will have to provide details of their 2002 entry. Those born after 1987, whose names did not feature in the 2002 roll, will instead have to furnish details of any parent or grandparent whose name appeared in that electoral roll. The district administration has urged residents to keep relevant documents and electoral details ready to facilitate smooth completion of the verification exercise.
