RAIPUR :
In the wake of the recent fire incidents at coaching centres in Delhi, Lucknow and Kota, Rajasthan, the Chhattisgarh Government has ordered a comprehensive safety audit of buildings across State.
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao has directed all urban local bodies to assess the structural and safety compliance of buildings under their jurisdiction. Arun Sao said instructions have been issued to all Municipal Corporation Commissioners and urban local bodies to conduct safety audits in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Dedicated teams comprising concerned officials have
been constituted to carry out the inspections and ensure
compliance.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the audit will examine key aspects such as fire safety systems, emergency evacuation arrangements, electrical safety measures and other mandatory safety provisions. Buildings found lacking in any of these areas will face action as per the applicable rules and regulations.
Saw said the state government has sought detailed reports from all urban bodies upon completion of the audit exercise. The reports will help assess the overall safety status of buildings across Chhattisgarh and
enable the government to take further corrective measures wherever required. The Deputy Chief Minister said the decision follows the recent fire tragedies at coaching centres in Delhi and Kota, which claimed several lives and raised serious concerns over the safety of public buildings across the country. He said the statewide audit is intended to ensure that such incidents are prevented and that public safety remains the government’s top priority.
