In a major infrastructure upgrade, the Subhash Nagar Metro Station in the State capital will be directly linked to adjacent residential neighbourhoods via a state-of-the-art foot overbridge constructed over active railway tracks. This strategic initiative designed by the Metro administration is set to directly benefit over one lakh residents living in Subhash Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, and the Railway Colony. Currently, commuters from these densely populated localities are forced to take a tedious two-kilometre detour to reach the main entrance of the Metro station on the opposite side of the railway lines, resulting in a significant wastage of time and commuting expenses. Once completed, the pedestrian bridge will allow residents to cross the active railway tracks safely and enter the station directly from their neighbourhoods. According to Metro officials, construction work along the 6.22-kilometre priority corridor stretching from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS is now virtually complete. The corridor features eight modern Metro stations, each equipped with dual entry and exit gates to facilitate the seamless movement of passengers. To ensure compliance with high safety standards, a specialised delegation led by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has already executed comprehensive technical audits and physical inspections of the corridor, paving the way for the imminent launch of commercial operations.

The upcoming foot overbridge will be constructed near the railway tracks on the Subhash Nagar side, for which the Metro Corporation has successfully acquired the necessary land after co-ordinating with the railway authorities. Erecting this 40-meter-long heavy steel structure at a height of 10 meters above active and busy railway tracks presents a formidable engineering challenge. To mitigate risks, the technical teams have drafted a specialised installation blueprint to assemble and launch the steel span without disrupting daily passenger and freight train operations. The bridge will connect directly to the first floor or concourse level of the metro station, allowing commuters to reach the ticket counters seamlessly. Inspired by the highly successful transit systems of the Delhi Metro, this design is expected to significantly boost overall rider occupancy. Alongside the upcoming foot overbridge at Subhash Nagar, a dedicated connectivity corridor has already been completed to link the Rani Kamalapati railway station with its adjacent Metro station. A 70-meter-long skywalk is now fully functional, directly connecting the concourse levels of both transport hubs to offer seamless transit for long-distance railway passengers transferring to the Metro network.
