Despite the arrival of southwest monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur continues to wait for widespread rainfall. The prolonged dry spell has left the city battling scorching heat and high humidity. Jabalpurians experienced another uncomfortable day on Monday as scorching heat and severe humidity made outdoor activities difficult. Although light showers were reported in a few parts of the city during the evening, they only brought a brief spell of coolness. The humidity remained high and continued to cause discomfort throughout the day. Spokesman weather department informed that strong winds sweep city regularly have been preventing monsoon clouds from staying over city for long.

 

The condition is resulting in only scattered showers instead of widespread rain. Spokesman weather department however, said conditions are gradually becoming favourable for active monsoon conditions. He said moderate to heavy rainfall may lash the city and other districts of the region over the next two to three days. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places. It may be noted that the prolonged delay in rainfall has also increased concerns over depleting water resources and has added to the hardships caused by the prevailing weather. Farmers are anxiously waiting for steady rains, while urban residents are hoping for relief from the persistent heat and humidity. With the weather department predicting an active monsoon phase shortly, residents are keeping their fingers crossed that the city will finally receive widespread showers and much needed relief from the harsh weather conditions.
