Death of lawyer Kavita Nagarjun, just three months after her marriage, has sparked a major controversy. The deceased’s father, Dakshinamurthy, has filed a complaint in Jabalpur District Court, alleging that his daughter’s death was not natural but the result of dowry harassment and a premeditated murder. The complaint makes serious allegations against her husband, Major Om Nagarjun, her father-in-law, and other in-laws. The father claims that despite filing a police complaint, no FIR was registered, forcing him to seek legal recourse. According to the complaint, the in-laws demanded approximately 100 tolas of gold, Rs 3 crore in cash, a diamond necklace worth Rs 20 lakh, an XUV-700 car, and household goods worth approximately Rs 12 lakh at the time of marriage. Despite this, the dowry demands remained unabated. It is alleged that the father-in-law, a retired Army Colonel, demanded Rs 50 lakh to open a hospital, which was met. Despite this, Kavita continued to be harassed, and after the marriage, an additional Rs 2 crore was demanded.

The family alleges that, in addition to dowry, she was also insulted about her physical appearance. The deceased’s father has claimed in the complaint that Kavita had two serious injuries on her head, one of which was life-threatening. He alleges that on the day of the incident, Major Om Nagarjuna picked Kavita up from the JAK RRC Mess in Jabalpur at around 10 am, but it took nearly three hours to reach the military hospital, located just a few minutes away. The family alleges that during this time, Kavita was assaulted and later, she was taken to the hospital in an unconscious state, in an attempt to pass off the case as a cardiac arrest. The family has also questioned the cardiac arrest theory. He states that Kavitha underwent a detailed medical examination at the Rajiv Gandhi National Medical Hospital in Chennai on April 25, 2025, and no heart-related problems were detected. Therefore, the claim that she died from a sudden cardiac arrest approximately one and a half months later appears suspicious. The father has demanded that the court conduct an impartial investigation into the matter and take strict action against the accused. Furthermore, all allegations made in the case are based on facts stated in the complaint, which can only be confirmed after investigation and judicial proceedings.
