Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and rainfall is expected to increase across Chhattisgarh from June 4, according to the latest weather report released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Raipur.
During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at isolated places across State. The highest maximum temperature of 42.0 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rajnandgaon, while Pendra Road reported the lowest minimum temperature at 22.0 degrees Celsius. Significant rainfall was recorded at Kuakonda in Dantewada district (3 cm), Korba (2 cm), Pendra Road in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district (2 cm), Patharia in Mungeli district (1 cm), Mainpat in Surguja district (1 cm), Bhaisma and Katghora in Korba district (1 cm each), Kansabel in Jashpur district (1 cm), Pendra in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district (1 cm) and Surajpur (1 cm).
The IMD stated that no major change in maximum temperatures was observed across State during the last 24 hours. However, isolated places in North Chhattisgarh witnessed thunderstorm activity along with gusty winds, lightning and light rain. Weather conditions are expected to become more active over the coming days.
According to meteorologists, a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh to North Tamil Nadu through Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalaseema at 1.5 km above mean sea level is influencing weather conditions over central India. In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over northeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, contributing to the development of rain-bearing systems. For June 4, the department has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places across Chhattisgarh. It has also issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph at isolated locations. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue during the following two days. In Raipur, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on June 4, with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms or duststorms. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are likely to remain around 41 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.
