For the biennial Rajya Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Central Election Committee has nominated National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and state party leader Rajneesh Agrawal as its candidates from the State.
The tussle for the third Rajya Sabha seat from the State seems interesting, as senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s tenure ended in April this year. Currently, Sumitra Valmiki, Kavita Patidar, George Kurian, Sumer Singh Solanki, L Murugan, Maya Naroliya, Bansilal Gurjar and Umesh Nath Maharaj are the sitting BJP Rajya Sabha members from the State.
The Indian National Congress (INC) currently holds three out of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats allocated to Madhya Pradesh. The other Congress members representing the State in the Upper House are Vivek K Tankha and Ashok Singh.
Notably, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal were in Delhi on Wednesday, and it is believed that they discussed the name of the candidate whom the party might field for the third seat, which will be announced soon.
