The results of the general and by-elections to urban local bodies and three-tier Panchayats in Chhattisgarh were declared today. According to information received from the State Election Commission, counting of votes was conducted peacefully in all districts across State. In the elections for five civic body president posts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three posts Bamhanideeh, Shivnandanpur and Sahaspur Lohara while the Indian National Congress secured two posts in Palari and Dhumka. For the councilor posts, BJP won 39 out of 71 seats, while Congress secured 30 seats.
 
Independent candidates won the remaining two seats. In the Panchayat elections, 640 candidates were elected unopposed to the 1,136 posts of Panch. Elections were held for 107 Panch posts. No nominations were received for 385 Panch posts, while nominations for four posts were rejected.Similarly, 15 candidates were elected unopposed to the 82 posts of Sarpanch. Elections were conducted for 34 Sarpanch posts. No nominations were received for 30 posts, while nominations for three posts were rejected. The results for 10 Janpad Panchayat Member posts were also declared today. Returning Officers formally declared the results and handed over certificates to all winning candidates. Following the declaration of results, the State Election Commission withdrew the Model Code of Conduct with immediate effect.
