In a major crackdown, the Social Security Branch (SSB) team of Nagpur Police busted an alleged sex trafficking racket in Dhantoli, on Wednesday. The raid was conducted under ‘Operation Shakti’.
During the raid, the SSB team arrested a 22-year-old man accused of luring women into prostitution.
According to police, the action was taken following a tip-off. The accused, identified as Dhammadeep Ravindra Gajbhiye (22), a resident of Bhivsen Khori in Dabha area, was allegedly procuring women and arranging customers for commercial sexual activities.
Acting on the information, an SSB team, accompanied by panchs, witnesses and a decoy, conducted a raid near Mate Apartment on the road connecting Chhatrapati Square and Narendra Nagar railway underpass, under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli Police Station. During the operation, the police found the accused along with a woman.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Gajbhiye had allegedly brought the woman to the spot for commercial sexual exploitation and was facilitating prostitution for financial gain. Based on the findings, Dhantoli Police registered a case under Sections 143(2) and 143(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. Gajbhiye was arrested, while the rescued woman was shifted to Karuna Hostel.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Inspector Rahul Shire and involved API Shivaji Nanware, NPC Sheshrao Raut, Police Constables Ashwin Mange, Kunal Masaram, Sameer Sheikh, Kunal Bodkhe, and Woman Head Constable Aarti Chauhan.
