The death of Khyati Jain, a 19-year-old first-year Bachelor of Arts student residing in the Green Park Colony of the Ashoka Garden area, has escalated into a major controversy. While initial preliminary findings pointed toward a case of suicide, the deceased’s mother has raised serious allegations of murder, casting deep suspicion over the ongoing police investigation.
According to police records, the incident occurred on May 11, when Jain was alone at home. Her mother, Varsha Jain, a school teacher, had travelled to Sonkatch in the Dewas district to attend an official teacher training program. Around 2:30 pm, Jain reportedly called a male friend, allegedly telling him that she was going to end her life. Upon rushing to the residence, the friend discovered Jain lying in a pool of blood with a slashed left wrist and a knife lying nearby.
Upon being alerted, the Ashoka Garden police arrived at the scene and sent the body for an autopsy. Although no suicide note was recovered from the premises, law enforcement officials seized Jain’s mobile phone to conduct a thorough digital forensic analysis of her communications and call history.
Police officials stated that Jain had been living in a rented house with her mother, following her parents’ divorce approximately a decade ago.
Her father resides in Indore, where he works in the private sector. Jain was pursuing her undergraduate degree at Hamidia College and was simultaneously preparing for competitive career examinations.
Shortly before her death, an emotional message was sent from Jain’s Instagram account to her friend, expressing deep affection for her mother and her friend while referencing severe mental distress. However, Varsha Jain has strongly contested the authenticity of this message, asserting that the phrasing and writing style do not match her daughter’s usual manner of communication. She alleged that the friend also had access to Jain’s Instagram account, demanding a rigorous forensic verification of the digital correspondence. Firmly maintaining that the circumstances point toward homicide rather than self-harm, the grieving mother accused the local police of negligence. She pointed out that despite 24 days having passed since the tragedy, local authorities have failed to register a First Information Report (FIR) or investigate critical discrepancies in the timeline of the event. Ashoka Garden TI Anurag Lal stated that the department is currently awaiting the forensic viscera report. He added that subsequent legal actions, including the formal registration of an FIR, will be determined strictly based on the findings of this medical report and the ongoing inquiry.
