ON THE occasion of the completion of 10 years of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), special maternal health camps will be organised across all districts of Madhya Pradesh on June 9. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla has appealed to all pregnant women and their families in the State to visit these camps and avail themselves of free check-ups, counseling, and treatment facilities. He stated that timely check-ups during pregnancy and early identification of high-risk conditions can help reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. The data for maternal health services in Madhya Pradesh under the campaign reveals that out of 14.31 lakh pregnant women registered in the financial year 2025-26, antenatal care (ANC) check-ups were conducted for 10.25 lakh women, which is approximately 72 percent of the total registration. During these check-ups, 2.94 lakh women were identified with High-Risk Pregnancy (HRP), out of which 2.60 lakh (88 percent) women were provided with the necessary treatment, management, and referral services as per the prescribed protocol.

According to Disha Pranay Nagvanshi, Additional Mission Director of the National Health Mission, these special camps will be organised across all Government medical colleges, district hospitals, civil hospitals, community and primary health centres, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the State. In these camps, antenatal and postnatal check-ups for pregnant women, registration of new and left-out pregnant women, and identification, treatment, and regular follow-up of high-risk women will be ensured. During this, examinations of women’s blood pressure, weight, BMI, medical and obstetric history, along with necessary laboratory tests will be conducted. Crucial tests such as hemoglobin, urine albumin and sugar, HIV, Hepatitis-B, syphilis, malaria, sickle cell screening, blood grouping, and OGTT will be available free of cost in the camps. In addition, sonography and specialist consultation facilities will also be provided based on requirement.

The availability of essential medicines, including iron-folic acid and calcium, has been ensured across all health institutions. To ensure access of services to high-risk pregnant women, the active participation of Asha workers, ANMs, Community Health Officers, and the Suman Help Desk will be utilised, while free transport facilities through 108 ambulances will also be available for women in need.
